The Perks Of Joining Biker Associations

Group of Bikers

If you are a newer biker, you probably are eager to learn how to be better rider. There are a lot of ways to do so, but a great one is to join a biker's association. These organizations serve civic, professional and social needs to benefit riders everywhere. Many novice bikers consider them to be sources of information as they learn more about their vehicles.

In bike organizations, you'll find a lot of people who share your enthusiasm for your bike. You might be able to take part in bike rallies, charity rides and other social opportunities. However, these groups are about more than having fun. They can provide you with a wealth of information and financial benefits when you join up.

1. Increased Safety and Security

Bike associations frequently host member events. This often include organized rides. These are great opportunities for you to get out and meet other bike aficionados. However, organized rides can also provide a lot of other safety benefits. You've likely heard that traveling in groups is the safest way to go. This is especially true for bikers. Should you experience problems while riding in a group, you'll likely have people with you who are ready to help. This can go a long way towards keeping minor problems from becoming disasters.

2. Information and Education

Bike technology, traffic rules and safety recommendations change all the time. In bike organizations, you'll likely find a source of information that can keep you abreast of changes in the industry. They'll also be able to provide you with information that can keep you safer as you bike. For example, they might teach defensive driving or equipment safety classes.

3. Insurance Benefits

Motorcycle insurers like to see customers who take care of their own safety and security. By joining a bike organization, you might show that you have a commitment to your bike and yourself. As a result, some bike insurers might award discounts to members of certain clubs.

Keep in mind, joining any club might not qualify you for insurance benefits. For example, simply joining a local rider's club might not open up discounts. However, nationally-recognized, organizations such as the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America often offer these perks.

Not every insurance carrier will reward benefits for joining an organization. Therefore, when you look for a policy, tell your Amco or Remco Insurance agent if you hold membership in one of these clubs. Your agent might be able to better tailor your policy options. Still, never let your membership be the sole determinant of which policy you choose. Other policies might prove more beneficial to you, and that's what is most important.
