Groundwater - Hexavalent
Chrome in water is easily captured by an strong base anion exchange
resin in the chloride form. It has a very high capacity for the
hex chrome complex and the system can be run with non-detectable
chrome in the ouput. Regeneration is simple with a salt brine
solution. With specially designed systems, the regenerant is as
low as 12 gallons per cu. ft of resin or about 360 gallons for
a 30 gpm system. Chrome waste can be treated on site or hauled
off to a treating facility. Capacity is diminished in high sulfate/nitrate
environments.
Plating and surface
finishing applications can use resins to recover both hex and
trivalent chrome. See the literature below.
